Summer Reading Program
Reading research indicates that children improve their reading ability by reading and that reading achievement is directly related to the amount of reading that a child does.
At Mitchell Road Christian Academy, we think that it is important for children to read, not only during the school year but also during the summer months. This program has been instituted to encourage just that.
A challenge is being made to all MRCA students, a challenge to read this summer. The specific challenge? To read at least 500 pages before school starts in August. For students who would like to accept a more difficult assignment, we challenge them to "go for the goal" of 1,000 pages or more. Students should set individual goals for their reading; they should pace themselves throughout the summer and should try to read at least every other day.
