An Integral Score for Life
We believe music is a gift from God that nurtures children spiritually, academically, and creatively. From early education through elementary grades, students participate in weekly music classes where they develop their skills and learn to use their talents to glorify Him. Teachers also incorporate music and movement “brain breaks” to keep students refreshed and engaged throughout the day.
Students share their learning in two special programs each year — a Christmas celebration and a Spring program — giving families opportunities to worship together through music. Middle School students may also choose to participate in Band.
Early Education (K3–T1)
In our K3–T1 music classes, we use the Growing in Grace curriculum to build strong foundations in melody, rhythm, and musical expression. This faith-based, age-appropriate program was developed by experienced music educators and children’s choir leaders to engage and nurture young hearts spiritually as they sing, play, move, and create. Students explore rhythm and pitch using a variety of percussion instruments while developing joyful confidence in music.
Elementary Music (1st–4th Grade)
Students continue developing musical skills and understanding while discovering that music is both a skill and a gift we can use to honor the Lord. Students learn music fundamentals such as reading rhythms, understanding terminology, recognizing basic musical form, reading notation, keeping a steady beat, matching pitch, and singing in tune. They grow in performance skills through singing with proper vocal technique and playing classroom instruments including boomwhackers, percussion, handbells, recorders, ukuleles, and Orff instruments. Students also explore musical expression through dynamics, tempo, movement, and creative response activities. As they develop music literacy, they read and perform simple rhythmic and melodic patterns while learning to listen attentively, appreciate a variety of musical styles and cultures, and understand instrument families and how sound is produced. Worship music and theology is also incorporated into the 4th grade curriculum. Through group performances and ensemble playing, students build teamwork, confidence, self-expression, and cognitive skills such as memory and focus. A variety of engaging teaching methods ensure each child actively experiences and participates in the joy of music.
